The meaning of our name

స్వాగత్ Swagath means welcome.

In an Andhra home, nobody leaves without being fed. A guest is welcomed with folded hands and a full plate: hot rice, a spoon of ghee, and a little pickle on the side that someone's grandmother made in summer.

Every pack of Javvaji Swagath is that same namaskaram, from our family in Guntur to yours. It's an honest welcome, and we'd never serve you something we wouldn't serve at home.

Our story, in four chapters

Some flavours you never forget.
We set out to bring one back.

Guntur · before sunrise
Chapter 01

The sun rises over Guntur

Guntur's red soil has grown India's best-loved chillies for generations, and its mirchi yard is one of the largest chilli markets in Asia. Mornings here start before the sun is high, with farmers walking the rows and the plants heavy with red.

ఎర్రటి నేల, ఎర్రటి మిర్చి.

Chapter 02

Ammamma's terrace in summer

Many of us remember the same summer. Chillies were spread on a white cloth across the terrace and turned by hand every few hours, and the whole house smelled of mangoes and kaaram.

Ammamma never bought spice powder from a shop. "You don't know what they mix in it," she would say.

Chapter 03

A promise, made in 2022

When most store-bought powders stopped tasting like anything, we started Javvaji Swagath to bring that honesty back. We choose real Guntur chillies, dry them in the sun and process them the traditional way.

There's no colour, no filler and no shortcut. What goes in the pack is only the spice.

Chapter 04

Back in your kitchen

When you open a pack of Javvaji Swagath, the aroma should take you straight back to her kitchen: the clink of the jaadi lid, the first bite of avakaya with hot rice and ghee.

That's the only test we care about. Does it taste like home?

Five honest steps.
No shortcuts in between.

Ooragai season

Every summer, the house smells like avakaya.

Making ooragai is a family ritual. Mangoes get cut on the verandah, the jaadi is washed and sun-dried, and everyone has an opinion about the salt. Our Ooragai Kaaram is made for exactly this: bright red colour, balanced heat, and a coarse texture that soaks up oil the way a pickle needs it to.

అమ్మమ్మ ఆవకాయ

Ammamma's Avakaya

Her rule: one measure kaaram, one measure aavalu, one measure salt.

  1. Wipe raw mangoes completely dry. Cut into pieces with the seed shell on.
  2. Mix Ooragai Kaaram, mustard powder and crystal salt in equal measure, plus a little fenugreek.
  3. Coat the pieces well, then pour in gingelly oil until they are covered.
  4. Seal in a dry jaadi. Stir on day three, then wait. Patience is the last ingredient.

Our promise of purity

What you'll never find in our pack.

✕

Artificial colour

The red comes from the chilli, not from a dye.

✕

Brick powder or sand

A trick to add weight. We'd rather sell you less, honestly.

✕

Husk & fillers

No sawdust, bran or stalks ground in to stretch the batch.

✕

Preservatives

Fresh grinding and good packing do that job.

Don't just trust us. Test us.

The glass-of-water test

Sprinkle a spoon of chilli powder into a glass of still water. Pure chilli powder floats and settles slowly, and the water stays clear. If you see red streaks running down, that's artificial colour. If there's grit at the bottom, that's brick powder or sand.

Try it with ours. Then try it with any other.
